What is Therapy?

A talking therapy (or counselling) allows you to talk about your problems and feelings in a confidential and safe environment. Your counsellor is trained to listen with empathy (putting themselves in your shoes). They can help you deal with any negative thoughts and feelings you have in your life. The term "counselling" is used to refer to many types of talking therapies but counselling is also a type of therapy in its own right.

Light Up Your Life Therapy offers an integrated approach to counselling, using the many different styles, to enable you to move forward by understanding your feelings through your thoughts and behavioural patterns. By working with you, our therapists can adapt and empathise in a way that suits you.

How can we help you?

We aim to help you deal with and overcome issues that are causing emotional pain or making you feel unhappy, upset or uncomfortable. We provide a safe environment for you to talk and explore your difficult feelings. Your therapist is there to support you, respect your views and help you find your own insights into and understanding of your problems.

Counselling is talking about difficult or painful feelings. With the help and support of your therapist you will start to feel better. Sometimes it takes a number of sessions before therapy starts to make a difference, so commitment is needed to make the best use of the therapy.

During your therapy you will be encouraged to express your feelings and emotions. By discussing your concerns your counsellor can help you get a clearer understanding of your feelings and thought processes. This will enable you to find your own solutions to your problems in the future.
It is a great relief to share your worries and fears with qualified individual who acknowledges your feelings and is able to help you reach a positive solution.

Talking therapies can help with:

• anxiety
